But in their day-to-day lives, they have hit upon a dynamic that keeps their negative thoughts and feelings about each other (which all couples have) from overwhelming their positive ones. They have what I call an emotionally intelligent marriage.

I absolutely love what I do, and have the best clients who are motivated, aware and engaged. I specialize in the science of relationship therapy, helping clients better understand, approach and enjoy relationships and their role in keeping them strong. I am currently accepting new clients and offer couple, individual and premarital/pre-commitment relationship counseling services and couple workshops.

A marriage and family therapist and professional counselor, I help clients figure out what feels wrong in their relationship, how to communicate these valid needs and help them to get back on track. Using leading methods based on decades of research, I guide partners to build trust and commitment again through learning to communicate needs and emotions, manage conflict, accept influence, turn towards each other and repair wounds. I also incorporate discussions of social status, power and privilege when I identify disparities in these as influencing the relationship. My therapy is secular and non-religious unless otherwise requested.

Trained in the acclaimed Gottman Method of couples therapy, I teach clients predictors of divorce and breakup and how to avoid them, and how to adopt the behaviors that instead lead to highly satisfying relationships. Even if your relationship has taken a sharp turn for the worst, this experience can provide valuable information and often leads to even deeper connection and shared meaning. Sound like a lot to ask? You and your partner deserve it.

I am LGBTQIA-affirming.

“Kari is a phenomenal counselor! We were thrilled with how useful and productive our couples therapy was. She gave us a wealth of important information about what works and doesn’t work in relationships. She then gave us tools for problem-solving and appreciation in our marriage. We talked through some difficult issues and made lots of progress. We are much better equipped to have a loving and successful life together. We would highly reccommend Kari to anyone looking for couples therapy!”
